Our mission

Every veteran deserves a path back to stability, purpose, and belonging.

Locate 22 is designed as more than a shelter or referral line. It is a practical, integrated system that helps veterans move from crisis toward independence.

The name honors the long-standing “22” symbol in veteran suicide awareness while focusing the organization on prevention, connection, and action.

How Locate 22 works

One request. One coordinated pathway.

The model is designed to reduce handoffs, preserve dignity, and keep one accountable point of coordination around the participant.

01

Request

A veteran, family member, or approved referral partner requests assistance.

02

Review

The request is screened for urgency, consent, safety, and the appropriate response.

03

Connect

Qualified outreach personnel attempt respectful, lawful contact when appropriate.

04

Plan

The veteran or family helps shape a practical, individualized stability plan.

05

Coordinate

Locate 22 connects participating partners across housing, benefits, health, transportation, and work.

06

Follow through

Progress is reviewed and support is adjusted as the participant moves toward independence.

One coordinated system

Support that meets the whole person

A message from the founder

Built from service, investigation, and the belief that no veteran should disappear from the community.

Matthew Schultz is the founding Executive Director of Locate 22, a Marine Corps veteran, licensed private investigator, and longtime community advocate.

His professional experience locating people, developing facts, coordinating investigative work, and helping families navigate difficult circumstances shaped the central idea behind Locate 22: use disciplined outreach to reconnect veterans, then surround them with practical resources that support lasting stability.

“Locate 22 is being built to do more than identify a need. It is being built to find the person, earn trust, coordinate the right support, and remain present while that veteran moves toward a stronger future.”
